Investment Options for Obtaining the Portugal Golden Visa
Capital investment
- Purchase of units in investment or venture capital funds in the amount of at least EUR 500,000 with a mandatory holding period of no less than 5 years. At least 60% of the fund’s assets must be directed to companies registered and operating in Portugal, excluding those related to real estate.
- A contribution of at least EUR 500,000 to projects related to scientific research activities (EUR 400,000 in low-density regions*).
- An investment of at least EUR 250,000 in support of the arts, restoration, and preservation of cultural heritage assets (EUR 200,000 in low-density regions*).
Investment in entrepreneurial activity
- Creation of at least 10 jobs (8 jobs in low-density regions*).
- An investment of at least EUR 500,000 in the establishment of a new company or increase of the capital of an existing enterprise headquartered in Portugal, provided that at least 5 jobs are maintained for 3 years or more.
- An alternative option is the preservation of at least 10 jobs in an existing business for a period of three years.
* Low-density regions are territories with fewer than 100 inhabitants per 1 sq. km or where GDP per capita does not exceed 75% of the national average.
Which Countries Can Be Visited with a Portuguese Residence Permit
Holders of a Portuguese residence permit may travel freely throughout the Schengen Area while retaining their resident status. This makes it possible to travel without visas for work, study, or leisure.
The permitted duration of stay in other Schengen Area countries is up to 90 days within each 180-day period. In addition, possession of a Portuguese residence permit often facilitates the process of obtaining visas to the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, and a number of other countries, as it confirms the applicant’s lawful and stable status in the European Union.
